Knee arthroscopy is keyhole surgery used to diagnose and treat knee injury, inflammation and infection. The surgeon uses an arthroscope, a flexible tube with camera and precision tools, to examine and sometimes repair the knee. The surgeon may remove damaged tissue or cartilage and take biopsies (tissue samples) to aid diagnosis.

The surgery is performed under general or local anaesthetic. You may need to wear a compression stocking on the unaffected leg to prevent blood clots from forming.
