Posterior Decompression surgery in the cervical region is performed at the back of the neck, where a surgeon removes degenerative bone segments that are compressing spinal nerves. Posterior decompression may involve Laminoplasty, where pressure on the spinal cord is relieved by cutting the lamina (the bone around the spinal cord), or Laminectomy, where part of the lamina is completely removed.
Foraminotomy involves cutting a 1-2 inch incision and removing a small amount of bone where the spinal canal is compressed. This is minimally invasive surgery and is typically performed under local anaesthetic.
